Corruption Watch 1

Previous posts in this sphere have touched on this topic without actually coming out and using the C word. However, it’s left to football – not exactly the beautiful game to those looking outside in- to instigate what may be the first of many posts, hence the numbering.
Papers reported yesterday that Joao Havelange, the previous head of FIFA, was revealed to have taken bribes in respect of the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, during court hearings in Switzerland.
Today, the present incumbent, Sepp Blatter, a man who is to integrity, as George W Bush was to the environment, announced that he knew that Havelange had been taking “commissions”, of 1m Swiss francs or £660,000.
Under Blatters watch, not only did he do nothing about these payments, he actually tried to have the current proceedings stopped.
When pressed on the matter, Blatter was at pains to stress that not only had he no intention of resigning, he didn’t feel that he had done anything wrong. Even allowing for Blatters somewhat tenuous grip on reality, this is by far the clearest and best example of those In power taking absolutely no responsibility for either the position they are in, or their actions.

Power without responsibility , the new disease.
